Seamless Data Center Migration to Azure Cloud for Multinational Energy Company

Problem

A multinational energy company needed to migrate its data center resources to the Azure Cloud while ensuring the continuity of existing applications and services for its business units.

Proposed Solution

The project was executed in three phases: Discovery, Migration Assessment and Technical Planning, and Documentation.

  • During the Discovery phase, an appliance was set up to capture device and application dependencies, generating reports for application dependency.
  • In the Migration Assessment/Technical Planning phase, environment discovery scripts and other data sources were utilized for data analysis. Workshops were conducted to plan application workload migration and enable Azure Cloud adoption. Technical workshops were also held for Cloud capacity planning validation and forecasting.
  • The Documentation phase involved analyzing the discovery assessment, documenting business and technical requirements, providing recommendations for the cloud design approach, asset and workload migration approach, migration services, and estimating cloud resource costs. An executive summary was provided summarizing the findings.

Result

The energy company successfully migrated their data center resources to the Azure Cloud while ensuring the continuity of applications and services. The comprehensive planning and documentation process facilitated a smooth transition and enabled the company to leverage the benefits of cloud computing.
